Before To forming Toto its members were session musicians for Steely Dan[3] Seals, Crofts[4and Crofts[4] Boz Skaggs and Sonny and Cher. The guitarist Steve Lukather was the band's lead singer.
About Toto
Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro, David Paich (who at the time were also famous studio players working with Boz Scaggs) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The name comes from the Latin word which means "all inclusive," the group was determined to explore all styles of music.
In 1981 the third album by Toto Turn Back was a complete failure, but they rebound with their fourth album Isolation with two hits, including the title track and Roseanna. The album and tour made them a household name around the world.
After a gap of few years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in the year 1986. It is a departure from the ballads that were featured on previous albums and features some heavy rock. This album was their first to go platinum in North America.
During the recording process for the fifth album The group loses its manager and is faced with financial problems. They decide to record a new album and change their name to an entirely different producer. The lead singer Fergie Frederiksen leaves the band and is replaced by Joseph Williams, son of the legendary film composer John Williams and 1950s actress Barbara Ruick. Joseph is a more natural frontman than Frederiksen and gives the band a much needed boost.
In 1999, the band release Mindfields and begins an extensive worldwide tour. After a few months in Europe they travel to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a brief break, Toto resumes recording and continues to record their first live album titled Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes an original cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe in response to the band performing their hit song Africa on the recent tour. Toto's touring lineup includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest, as well as keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.

Toto is an American rock band that enjoyed their biggest success in the eighties. The band was founded by experienced session musicians and has sold more than 40 million albums in the world.
The first toto album was the self-titled Toto which was released in 1978. The album was a huge hit and helped propel the band to international fame. Since then, the band has released fourteen albums that have all been a hit.
In 1984, Toto wrote their first, and to this date only, film score for the film Dune. This was a major project that required the entire group to be involved. Kingdom of Desire was another hit album. After Isolation, Toto took a break from the spotlight and stepped away from the stage. This gave the individual members of the band the chance to pursue their own projects. The following year, Toto toured together with Ringo Starr and his All Starr Band. This was the final time that all original members of Toto were on stage together. After that, the group was again disbanded. Toto reunited for the benefit concert in 2010 to raise funds for the ALS Foundation. This was the first time all original Toto members were performing together for over 31 years. In addition to the original members, keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.

Toto has remained one of the most popular rock bands for over three decades, having scored huge hits like "Rosanna," "Hold The Line," and their 8X-platinum smash, "Africa." The band was hit with several setbacks throughout their final years, despite their popularity. In 2002, keyboardist David Paich and drummer Greg Phillinganes took a medical leave of absence. Shem von Schröeck was brought in to replace him however, the group wasn't the same without Paich or Phillinganes. In 2008, Toto decided to take a break from touring after a string lineup changes and a disappointing string of releases. But, the group recommenced touring in 2012 with the release of their album, 40 Trips Around the Sun.
The album was a return form for the band and the tour was accompanied it with sold-out shows in North America and Europe. Toto's reunion was made more exciting by the inclusion of guitarist Steve Lukather and bassist Shem von Schroeck, both of whom had rejoined the group.
Toto's music is the same today as it was back in the 70s and 80s, growing in popularity with every new generation. Their success has made them a permanent fixture of pop culture. Their live performances are always full of energy and excitement.
